How to Fix a Samsung TV Turning Off and On by Itself

Re: TV turning off. Reply LoadingIn the middle of the night, there's nothing more startling than hearing the familiar sound of your TV. Somehow, it has powered itself back on, leaving you confused and frustrated. You may be surprised to hear that a TV turning on by itself is a common problem with some simple resolutions.

This guide applies to all types and brands of TVs, especially those carried by Vizio, Samsung, and Sony. A TV that turns itself on or off isn't typically broken. A simple, easily fixed problem is usually the culprit.

Samsung Smart TV restart issue - fixing

There might be a stuck power button on your remote, or the remote's batteries may be running low. An internal timer might accidentally be set to turn on the TV, or a connected device, such as a router, network device, or USB wireless LAN adaptor, might be causing a problem. Most of the time, a TV that turns itself on or off is suffering from one of these generic fixes, regardless of the type or brand.

Check to ensure the remote's power button isn't stuck. If it is, take the remote apart to perform a good, solid cleaning. Check the batteries in your remote. Low battery power can cause random signals to send to your TV, sometimes turning it on. If you have to press buttons more than once on your remote, the batteries might be low.

Change the batteries to see if this solves the issue. Look for an internal timer. For most TVs, it's easy to find timers in the Settings section of your remote.

Locate the timer on your Samsung Smart TV with your remote. Check any connected devices or cords for malfunction. Unplug one device from your TV at a time and leave overnight. Continue until your TV stops turning on by itself. Once you find the culprit, you may need to purchase a new cord or device, depending on your needs. During service provider updates, TVs can turn back on to apply the newly updated software. If nothing works, reset your TV back to its original settings.

This process is different for all TV brands, but both Samsung and Vizio have easy-to-follow reset instructions. Resetting your TV to factory settings will remove all of your custom settings from memory. To remember specific settings, make notes so you can update your TV after the reset. If a hard reset doesn't work, reach out to customer support. You can find the support numbers online for your specific TV brand. For Samsung, either call or chat with support online.

samsung tv turns off by itself then turns back on

They should all be located on the back and should all be pretty easy to spot. If the back won't come off easily you probably still have a screw in so keep looking. Also don't lose these, you'll need them later! Your TV might have and extra metal covering over it, go ahead and take that off. The other board you can see controls most of the main functions on your TV while the board we want regulates and distributes power to the TV.

I'm going to recommend that you don't touch the main board at all. Before we get at our board make sure your TV is unplugged. Even still, be very careful with what you touch paying special attention to the HOT section of the board and all big mad scientist looking components, especially if you don't know what they are or what they do. Now that you've got an idea of what you're looking at go ahead and unplug all the wires connected to the power board.

Each wire group should have a different number of headers and should only fit back into the slot it came from but take note of where they did come out of so you don't have to fumble the board when you're putting it back in later.

Next unscrew the board and lift it out. Set the board on a nonconductive surface and we'll check it out! The bad capacitors should be pretty easy to spot. They'll have a notable bulge on the top and may even be leaking some electrolytic fluid.

In my case two capacitors had gone bad, as seen in the picture.I was watching some recipe videos on YouTube, when all of a sudden it starts turning off and on, it's been doing the same thing for the past 4 hours.
